Tucson Museum of Art's Summer Program for Children This program ranks among the most sophisticated art learning experiences in the city. The results of some students' efforts are exhibited in this annual show. Through Aug. 20. Free Tues. $2/$1 seniors/children under 12 free. 140 N. The Foreigner 8/7-8/8 & 8/13-8/15. People will say anything if they think the person next to them doesn't speak their language. That's the premise of The Foreigner, a critically acclaimed comedy about a man who hears evil plans and scandalous talk when he pretends he doesn't know English. This dinner theatre presentation is by the Catalina Players and Tony's New York Style Deli. $17.50/$10 for performance only. 6 p.m. dinner, 7:30 p.m. curtain. Santana: Saturday at 7;30 p.m., the East L.A. rock band Los Lobos will open the show for this veteran blues-rock band, led by namesake guitarist Carlos Cantana, in concert at the Pima County Fairgrounds, 11300 S. Houghton Road. Advance tickets cost $15.50 general and $31.50 reserved at Dillard's outlets; on the day of the show they'll cost $18.50 and $34.50, respectively.

Teens Cruise the "Jam Zone.": Young people ages 13-19 are invited to exhibit their low-rider bicycles, cars and model cars, and to listen to music on Saturday, 6-10 p.m. in the Hi Corbett Parking Lot. Register your low-rider between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. There will be awards in several categories, door prizes and fun activities. Refreshments will be available.

Cocktail Reception and Silent Auction: The Arizona Council for CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) Inc. is hosting a cocktail reception and silent auction at La Paloma Country Club, 3660 E. Sunrise Drive, on Saturday, 5-7 p.m. $12; with proceeds aiding abused and neglected children in the CASA program.

Monsoon Madness: Tucson Centers for Women and Children will hold the annual "Monsoon Madness" charity auction on Saturday at the University Marriott Hotel, 880 E. Second St. The live and silent auction, featuring hundreds of gifts, will begin at 8:30 p.m. $20; 795-8001.

Night Bloomers 8/8, 8/15, 8/22 & 8/29. Night Bloomers is this month's theme for the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum's Summer Saturday Evenings. Interpretive programs and special events focus on night-blooming plants. Certain paths and exhibits are lit so you can watch how active the desert night really is. Desert Rain Pools 8/8 & 8/22. Learn about toads, tadpoles, centipedes, geckos, snakes, and other creatures that thrive during the monsoon in this program by the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Swan-Ulman Group: Sunday at 7 p.m., the Tucson Jazz Society's weekly jazz jam at the Cottonwood Club, 60 N. Alvernon Way, will feature a band led by Pete Swan and Ed Ulman. Admission: $4 general, $2 for jazz society members. Musicians who come to jam admitted free.

Squirrel Nut Zippers: Sunday at 8 p.m., the Latin swing group Bio Ritmo will open the show for this North Carolina-based ragtime and swing group at the Rialto Theatre, 318 E. Congress St. Sold out.

The New Morty Show: Monday at 8 p.m., short films by Alvin Baker, Beverly Seckinger, Shawn Marshall and Patrick Brawley will precede a concert by this San Francisco swing band for "Multi-Media Monday" at Club Congress, 311 E. Congress St. Admission: $5.

Destiny's Child, Voices of Theory: Thursday at 7:30 p.m., these R&B groups will perform an outdoor concert at Tucson Greyhound Park, 2601 S. Third Ave. Entrances is on South Fourth Avenue at East 36th Street. Advances tickets cost $12 at Micha's restaurant and all Dillard's outlets; $15 the day of the show.

Sizzling Summer Soiree: This poolside social with appetizers, non-alcoholic beverages, music and dancing for ages 21 and older is Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Tucson Jewish Community Center, 3800 E. River Road. $5 members, $9 non-members. 299-3000.

"Buring Circle of Music": Saturday at 7:30 p.m., the local musicians 520, Bloolyte, the Gathering, Ivan Rijos, Lisa Otey, Sonny Peters Band, Steel Jam, Street Legal and others will play in the Universityof Arizona's Centennial Hall, just east of North Park Avenue on East University Boulevard. A $10 donation will be requested; proceeds will benefit the St. Mary's Hospital Burn & Wound Care Program.

Jaka: Saturday at 8 p.m., this band from Seattle will play Zimbabwean marimba music as part of the "Courtyard Concert Series" at Plaza Palomino, 2970 N. Swan Road. Advance tickets cost $10 at Hear's Music, Piney Hollow and in Suite 219 at the Plaza Palomino; $12 the day of the show.

UA "Welcome Back" Powwow: Saturday at 7 p.m., a traditional gourd dance will kick off this intertribal celebration in the Arizona Ballroom in the UA Student Union, midway between North Campbell and Park avenues on East University Boulevard. Sponsored by the University of Arizona's Native American Resource Center, the powwow will feature various dancing exhibitions and a 7:30 grand entry. All Native American dancers and singers are invited to participate. Free admission.

Tucson Summer Wind Ensemble: Saturday at 7:30 p.m., this newly formed ensemble of high school and college musicians plays classic and contemporary works at the Tucson High School Auditorium, 400 N. Second Ave. $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, students and military.

Pet Adoptathon: 8/22 & 8/23, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., the Foundation for Anmals in Risk (FAIR) and the humane Society of Southern Arizona will be showing dozens of cats, dogs, kittens and puppies ready for adoption at Petsmart, 4740 E. Grant Road. Information on volunteer and foster parent opportunities will be also available.

Up to 20 people at one time can experience simulated space or aviation flight. Saturday at 9 a.m. is the dedication and ribbon-cutting for the completion of this million-dollar project, followed by Morphis rides for museum visitors throughout the day. Admission is free for aerospace industry employees on Saturday; otherwise, it's $7.50 adults, $6.50 senior citizens and military personnel, $4 youths 10-17, free for children under 10.

Art Workshops: 8/29 - 9/3. The Pink Adobe Gallery is presenting a series of workshops designed to help participants explore their creativity. The next workshops concern garment and furniture painting and figurative clay sculpture. They run Saturday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Prices range from $25 to $28. Oscar Mayer Wienermobile: 8/29 & 8/30. The first 300 children can audition free for an Oscar Mayer Wiener commercial. Saturday and Sunday. 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at Old Tucson Studios, 201 S. Kinney Road. The wienermobile will be on hand at this final stop on a nationwide tour.

Arizona Repertory Theatre Open House: Sunday at 2 p.m., local theatergoers can get to know the ins and outs of the University of Arizona's professional training theater during this season-kickoff event at the UA Marroney Theatre, just southest of N. Park Avenue and E. Speedway. Activities will include guided facility tours, interactive presentations by directors and designers, a meet-and-greet with actors, a drawing for a free pair of tickets and refreshments. Admission is free, but please call 621-1162 on 8/28 to register.
